Grades 9-12 | Teen Drivers Ed
Teen Drivers Education is a three-week overnight course for deaf/hard of hearing teens ages 15-17 in Grades 9-12. Note: Adult Drivers Education is offered for those who are between the ages of 18-22 at the start of and during the course.
Certified drivers instructors fluent in sign language (voice interpretation on request) will provide 32 hours of classroom instruction and 14 hours of behind-the wheel and in-car observation to prepare for the Texas Learner’s Permit. Participants will also learn proper automobile and tire maintenance, the availability of alternative transportation methods, and how to plan trips using public transportation. Field trips to local attractions are also offered.
-
This course does not guarantee that each participant will pass the required tests to receive their Learner’s Permit.
-
After taking this course, participants will also be required to complete—on their own time—an additional 30 hours of driving practice supervised by a licensed adult who is age 21 or older.
